What button template sizes are available?

ButtonMaker offers 8 standard templates: 1.25 inch, 1.5 inch, 2.25 inch, and 3 inch circles, 1 inch, 1.5 inch, and 2 inch squares, plus a 2.25 inch heart shape. Paid users can also create custom sizes to match any button press.

Which button template size should I choose?

The 2.25 inch circle is the most popular size for campaigns, merch, and events. It works with the widest variety of button press equipment and has the cheapest replacement parts. Pick 1.25 inch for mini promo buttons, 3 inch for bold statement pieces, or the heart shape for weddings and valentines.

Do ButtonMaker templates include bleed?

Yes. Every template carries the published bleed for that size and shape rather than a percentage of the diameter. A 2.25 inch circle gets 0.1875 inches per side, for a 2.625 inch cut, and a 1 inch square gets 0.326 inches, for a 1.652 inch cut. Squares need roughly double a round of the same size because of the corners. The bleed ring shows in real time as you position your image, so you can see exactly what will print and what wraps around the edge of the finished button.

What file format do the templates download as?

All plans download print-ready PDFs with cut guides and bleed marks. The PDFs work directly with Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, or any printer.

Can I make custom-sized button templates?

Every size we support, drawn at the size it really is. The solid outline is where you cut, the dotted outline is the button face that stays visible once the paper wraps the shell, and the numbers underneath give the cut size, the button size and the bleed. Squares also print the bleed left at the corners, because a square is cut as a 45 degree octagon rather than a square: the corners have to fold flat behind the shell, and that is the number most size charts leave out.

US button size chart (PDF): 7/8" to 6" rounds, 1" to 3" squares, and the 1.75 x 2.75" oval.
Metric button size chart (PDF): 25mm to 100mm rounds, 37mm and 50mm squares, 45 x 65mm and 60 x 90mm ovals.

Measure the ruler before you cut anything. Printers default to Fit to page, which shrinks a letter sheet by roughly 4% and says nothing about it. Every chart and every blank template above carries a 1 inch and 25 mm bar at the foot of the page. If it measures short, your printer scaled the page: reprint at 100%.

There are two charts rather than one with a conversion column because 58mm is not 2.25". A 58mm button measures 2.283" and cuts at 70mm, where a 2.25" button cuts at 2.625", so a template made for one press is the wrong size in the other. Which press you own decides which chart you want.
