Button Parts and Supplies

Shells, pin backs, and mylar organized by button size

What Are Button Parts?

Each button you make requires three components: a metal shell (the top dome), a clear mylar cover (protects the design from scratches and moisture), and a metal pin-back (the bottom piece with the actual pin). Your paper circle, the printed design, goes between the shell and the mylar during assembly.

These are consumables. You reorder them as you make buttons. They come in sets, one set per button. The parts follow the Tecre standard, which means they work with most presses regardless of brand. A 58mm part and a 2.25" part are the same thing.

1.5" Circle Parts

A versatile middle size

BEAMNOVA 100 Sets, 37mm / 1.5" Pin-Back

1.5" is less common than 1.25" and 2.25", so parts are harder to find in large quantities on Amazon. This 100-set pack from BEAMNOVA works with any standard 37mm press. A good starting point if you want to offer this size alongside your other buttons.

For larger quantities, check directly with button supply manufacturers like Tecre or American Button Machines for bulk pricing.

3" Circle Parts

Large, bold buttons that make a statement

MK.Bear 100 Sets, 75mm / 3" Pin-Back

100 sets of 3" parts at about $0.34 per button. At this size, each button uses more material, so the per-unit cost runs higher than smaller sizes. 100 sets is a good starting point for testing or small-batch runs without a big commitment.

Bulk Buying Tips

How to keep your cost per button as low as possible

Buy in quantities that match your production. 100 sets is enough for testing a new size or press. 500 sets is the sweet spot for regular use, where the per-unit cost drops noticeably. 1,000 or more sets makes sense for business volume and event production.

Store parts in a dry place. Button shells and pin-backs are metal, and humidity causes tarnishing and rust. Keep them in their original packaging until you are ready to press.

Parts are standardized. A 58mm part and a 2.25" part are the same thing and will work in any standard press of that size. When in doubt, measure your press die or check the manufacturer's spec sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, within the same size. Button parts (shells, pin backs, mylar) follow the Tecre standard, which most presses use. A 2.25" part fits any standard 2.25" press regardless of brand. Just match the part size to your press die size. Molds and dies, on the other hand, are brand-specific.

A standard set includes a metal shell (front dome), a clear mylar cover (protects the design), and a metal pin-back (bottom piece with the pin). Some sellers also include blank paper circles. You supply the printed design.

It depends on your volume. Start with 100 to 200 sets while you learn your press. Move to 500 for regular use. For business volume, 1,000 or more at a time gives you the best per-unit cost.

Most button part sets include mylar. You can buy mylar separately if you run out or want extras on hand. Standalone mylar packs work with any standard parts of the same size.
